Bible verses about social media and distraction

The Bible never mentions social media, but verses like Colossians 3:2, Ephesians 5:15–16, Psalm 101:3 and Luke 10:41–42 speak directly to distraction, comparison and how we spend our attention.

All quotations are from the King James Version, which is in the public domain.

On where we fix our attention

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2

"Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee." Proverbs 4:25

"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12:2

On distraction and busyness

"Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:41–42

Martha wasn't doing anything wrong. She was just doing too many things to sit at Jesus's feet. That's what a feed does to a morning.

"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

On how we spend our time

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:15–16

"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Psalm 90:12

On what we look at

"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes." Psalm 101:3

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8

On comparison

"For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." 2 Corinthians 10:12

On being shaped by the world

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2

On guarding your heart

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." Proverbs 4:23
